At ABC Stores we strongly believe in rewarding hard work, productivity, and efficiency with excellent wages. At ABC Stores, associates are rewarded for the longevity of their employment with automatic wage increases based on the accumulation of hours they work. In addition, an associate’s good to excellent performance is rewarded with wage increases, bonuses, and promotions. It is our fundamental belief that paying good wages is part of a complete compensation package.


In keeping with our Company Culture of sharing profits with employees and “taking care of our Associates”, as an added benefit, the Company distributes a portion of the Company’s profits in cash to all members of the Profit Sharing Plan once a year as a Profit Sharing Bonus.  At ABC, when “We make it, we share it!”


Not only does the Company care for our associates’ present well-being by providing competitive wages and benefits, we also offer the finest profit sharing and 401(k) plan that allows our associates the means for a very comfortable retirement. There are three parts to this plan:

  1. The company supplemental profit sharing contribution: each year, the Company contributes a portion of its profits to the Profit Sharing Plan
  2. The employee pre-tax contribution. Associates may contribute up to 100% of their salary to the plan subject to caps set by the IRS.
  3. The company matching contribution: the company will match a portion of your contributions.

It should be noted that since the company added the 401(k) feature to the profit sharing plan in 1988, the company supplemental contributions have been larger than all of the employee contributions each year!


Medical, dental, drug and vision coverage is available to our employees and their dependents. The Company pays 100% of the premium for single coverage for fulltime employees after completion of the introductory period.

HMSA, an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, is a reliable name in Hawaii health care. Established in 1938, it is the largest and most experienced provider of health care coverage in the state.

HMSA has the largest provider network in Hawaii with more than 95 percent of Hawaii’s doctors, hospitals and other providers accepting the plan.  In addition, HMSA is the only health plan in Hawaii that offers a nationwide network of providers for both PPO and HMO plans making it easy to travel away from home while having access to their participating providers nationwide.


Kaiser Permanente is the largest non-profit health maintenance organization (HMO) in the state of Hawaii.

With Kaiser’s HMO plan, members pay low out-of-pocket expenses for medical services received from Kaiser Permanente providers and facilities.  Members benefit from Kaiser’s “one-stop shop” concept which allows them to receive medical services and pick up medication in one convenient location.  In addition, Kaiser members also enjoy the benefit of joining the Active and Fit program which offers discounted membership to selected health clubs or an at home fitness kits of their choice.


HDS is Hawaii’s first and largest dental benefits provider in the State of Hawaii. More than 96% of all licensed dentists in Hawaii participate with HDS.

HDS is a member of Delta Dental Plans Association (DDPA), the nation’s largest and most experienced dental benefits provider. Through DDPA, you will have access to over 109,000 dentists, that’s nearly two out of three dentists on the Mainland that participate with DDPA.


The Company offers a group term life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment insurance plan. The Company pays for 50% of the premiums.


Employees receive merchandise discounts at any ABC Store.


ABC Stores Jumpstart Scholarship
All employees of ABC Stores and their dependents, attending an accredited two- or four-year college or university or trade school as either an undergraduate or graduate student, are eligible to apply for ABC Stores Jumpstart Scholarships which are awarded once a year. The Hawaii Community Foundation, the administrator of the program, selects recipients on the basis of financial need, academic achievement and good moral character.

Flexible Spending Accounts
ABC Stores flexible spending accounts (FSA) allow you to deduct a portion of your salary on a pre-tax basis to cover two specific types of expenses: dependent care (DDC) and unreimbursed medical (URM).

Bus Pass/Parking Subsidy
The Company provides transportation assistance (reimbursement) to employees driving to work and paying for parking or catching the bus – subject to certain restrictions.

Vacation pay (1 to 4 weeks per year) is based on your years of service

Sick Leave
Sick leave, up to 7 days a year

Holiday Pay
Paid holidays, up to 7 days a year

Disability Insurance
Temporary Disability Insurance – receive benefits when you are on leave due to non-work related injuries or illnesses. The Company pays for 100% of the premium.
Long Term Disability Insurance offered to salaried employees. The Company pays for 50% of the premium.

Supplemental Insurance
Get extra protection and benefits with one of four of AFLAC’s supplemental insurance policies, which include: Accident Insurance, Cancer Insurance, Hospital Indemnity Insurance Intensive Care Insurance, and Critical Illness.
